Seodaemun Independence & Democracy Festival (2026)

Marking the 81st anniversary of Liberation Day, the 2026 Seodaemun Independence and Democracy Festival runs for two days, August 15 (Sat) and 16 (Sun), around the Seodaemun Prison History Hall and Independence Park. Under the theme 'Seodaemun-gu United in the Light of Liberation,' it is a representative history and culture festival that honors the spirit of sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs and shares the joy of liberation with citizens through a variety of celebratory cultural events. The commemoration ceremony and congratulatory concert stage on August 15 will feature meaningful congratulatory and commemorative addresses, along with a taekwondo performance, popera, and concerts by the singers Son Seung-yeon and Park Jung-hyun. Side events include an independence shout drawing contest, the Road of Liberation challenge, a stamp rally, and guided tours of the history hall, a full program of education and culture to enjoy from children to adults.
