About this event
Eight happy days shared with the people, now arriving as a citizens' festival. The grandest festival in Joseon history, a journey shared by the people and a sage king. In 2026, following the path of King Jeongjo's royal procession, we reflect on his will as recorded in the "Wonhaeng Eulmyo Jeongni Uigwe." In 1795, King Jeongjo traveled to Hwaseong in Suwon to celebrate the 60th birthday of his mother, Lady Hyegyeonggung of the Hong clan. His eight-day journey was not merely the movement of a king but a historic event in which he shared joyful memories with the people. King Jeongjo's love for his people was recorded in the "Wonhaeng Eulmyo Jeongni Uigwe" and widely distributed. In 2026, inheriting the spirit of King Jeongjo, the people's happy memories are re-created as the citizens' happy memories. The Joint Reenactment of King Jeongjo's Royal Procession is a festival in which Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Suwon, and Hwaseong collaborate to brilliantly recreate the original form of the "Eulmyo-year Hwaseong Royal Procession" in the modern day.
