The DMZ OPEN Festival is Gyeonggi Province's flagship multidisciplinary cultural event, designed to let visitors experience the peace, ecological, and historical value of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) through art, scholarship, and a wide range of other approaches. Rather than viewing the DMZ simply as a space of division and military tension, the festival reinterprets its long-preserved ecology, its historical meaning, and the possibility of peace and coexistence in the cultural language of today.
Gyeonggi Province has expanded the concept of 'OPEN' with the meaning of transforming the 'closed DMZ' into a space open to everyone, and the festival runs as a multidisciplinary cultural event presenting programs across many genres over an extended period.
The DMZ OPEN Festival aims to be more than a way of looking at the DMZ: it aspires to a festival people experience directly by walking, listening, watching, and reflecting. Connecting art, scholarship, sports, and other wide-ranging programs into a single flow, it shares the DMZ's values of peace, ecology, and history, and seeks to build an open cultural space where, together, we discover the meaning of 'a greater peace.'
