About this event
The 22nd Poeun Cultural Festival is a history and culture festival that honors the life and spirit of Poeun Jeong Mong-ju and shares traditional culture with citizens. In 2026, marking the 620th anniversary of Poeun Jeong Mong-ju's reburial, the festival is held under the theme 'The Breath of Poeun: Carrying On 620 Years' from October 10 to 11 in the area around the tomb of Poeun Jeong Mong-ju in Mohyeon-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin. A reburial procession and memorial rites look back on Poeun's footsteps, and the occasion offers encounters with traditional arts through a commemorative ceremony, celebratory performances, the Yongin Folk Arts Festival, and performances by prize winners of the National Youth Korean Traditional Music Contest. With the children's state-exam experience 'Challenge! Little Top Scholar,' Poeun School, traditional culture experiences, and citizen participation programs, it is a festival where families can learn about and enjoy history together. Food trucks, local eats, and stalls selling local agricultural specialties also help share the region's culture. The RE-BORN mission, connected with September's Cheoinseong Culture Festival, links the historical stories of the two festivals through missions carried out by the 'Cheoin Guardians,' a participatory program for experiencing Yongin's history and culture.
