About this event
Since ancient times, Koreans have performed rituals at renowned mountains, rivers, and seas to pray for the well-being of the nation and its towns and to ask for blessings. At sea, rituals were held during the Joseon dynasty in Incheon, Suncheon, and Gangneung, and among these the Incheon Dohobu (the local government office) performed its ritual on Wondo (Nakseom) for the deities of the West Sea. The Incheon Wondosa Ritual is the ceremony in which Incheon's local magistrate, acting on behalf of the king, gathered the spirit tablets of the islands' deities and offered sacrifices in spring and autumn at Wondosa, the shrine built on Wondo during the Joseon dynasty. The 2026 Incheon Wondosa Ritual & Nakseom Festival is a Michuhol-gu festival that combines a reenactment of the ritual with a village festival of harmony gilnori parades.
