Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival

Since its launch in 1997, the Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival has led the industrialization and globalization of Jeonju hanji, spreading word of the excellence of the city's thousand-year paper. It also reinterprets the many functions and values of hanji through culture, celebrating at the festival the beauty and worth of a paper that has long kept company with people. The annual National Hanji Craft Competition uncovers hanji works shaped by the care and hands of artisans from across the country, contributing to the growth and wider reach of hanji craftsmanship. The National Children's Hanji Art Contest, in which children spread boundless imagination and creativity across hanji paper, helps the coming generation meet Korea's own paper culture naturally and understand its value and beauty. In this way, the Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival goes beyond handing down and developing traditional hanji: by reinterpreting hanji as contemporary cultural content and opening a cultural stage where generations enjoy it together, it continues to champion the value of Jeonju hanji at home and abroad.
