Dongnae Eupseong History Festival

First held as the Chunghyeolje in 1995 and running for 32 years since, the Dongnae Eupseong History Festival is Dongnae-gu, Busan’s signature history-education experience festival. Newly elevated to a representative Korean ‘2026–2027 Culture and Tourism Festival’, the 32nd Dongnae Eupseong History Festival invites visitors into the vivid emotion of 1592. The festival announces its splendid start with the ‘Dongnae Busa Procession’, a grand parade joined by hundreds, and in particular the ‘Battle of Dongnaeseong reenactment outdoor musical’, staged on the actual historic ground where the Imjin War battle was fought, will convey the stirring emotion of the fortress’s desperate last stand all the more powerfully as a polished performance fused with media art. The festival also creates a scene of unity with the ‘Dongnae Samgajul three-rope tug-of-war’, where everyone joins together to pull one giant rope, and offers plenty of trendy hands-on content, from an outdoor escape room to the Byeolmidang character cookie experience. At the ‘Dongnae Market’, where visitors clutching yeopjeon coins plunge into a Joseon-era market street, you can savor a full day in the life of the fortress townspeople.
