About this event

Marking its 20th anniversary this year, the D.FESTA Small Theater Festival has long worked to lead the way toward a better performance culture, reading changes in Korea's production environment and the direction of the performing-arts market. Its aim is to open new paths for experimental and creative small-theater performance. Since 2016, through inter-regional exchanges with Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon, and Busan, it has worked to close cultural gaps not only in Seoul's Daehangno but across the whole country, and its steady outreach to overseas theater companies has borne fruit: this year the festival can finally present the visible results of those exchanges, including an Asian co-creation project with partners from Japan (Sapporo and Tokyo), China, and Taiwan, and the Small Theater Festival in Tokyo.

It is now time for the festival to take its place as an international event, expanding its alternating regional editions and linking up with festivals abroad to bring the small-theater festival to the world. As a first step, we hope this 20th-anniversary D.FESTA Small Theater Festival will be held successfully, introducing Korea's outstanding productions overseas and serving as a stepping stone for gauging and understanding the cultural level of the wider world.
